About our Aggression & Reactivity Program

Our Aggression and Reactivity Board & Train Programs are designed for dogs struggling with serious behavioral concerns toward people or other animals, including growling, snapping, lunging, or biting. These immersive programs typically span four to six weeks and focus on identifying the root causes of each dog’s behavior, such as fear, insecurity, overstimulation, or learned responses. From there, we develop a fully customized training and management plan tailored to your dog’s specific triggers and needs.

Throughout the program, dogs receive daily structured training that teaches appropriate coping skills, improved impulse control, and clear communication both at home and in real-world environments. Our goal is not only to reduce aggressive behaviors, but to create calmer, more confident dogs who can safely navigate everyday life. Owners are guided on how to maintain structure and progress after the program to ensure long-term success.

Aggression & Reactivity Rehabilitation at Rosewood Canine

Aggression in dogs is a serious concern that should never be addressed without professional guidance. Attempting to manage aggressive behavior without understanding the root cause often leads to increased stress and worsening behaviors. At Rosewood Canine, we specialize in identifying the underlying triggers behind aggression — whether rooted in fear, insecurity, overstimulation, territorial behavior, or learned responses, and teaching both dogs and owners how to safely and effectively work through these challenges.

Our approach focuses on comprehensive training for both the dog and the owner. Dogs are taught clear obedience, impulse control, and appropriate coping skills, while owners are educated on proper handling, structure, and long-term management techniques. Our Aggression Rehabilitation Board & Train Program typically spans four to six weeks, depending on the severity of the behavior and the dog’s individual progress.

Throughout the program, dogs remain in our care for daily structured training that addresses both obedience and behavioral modification in controlled and real-world environments. While aggression rehabilitation is not a quick fix, our extended programs allow for consistent guidance, clear communication, and meaningful progress. Although genetics and temperament cannot be changed, we equip owners with the tools, confidence, and control needed to safely manage and support their dog long term.

Upon program completion, we dedicate several hours to owner education and transition training to demonstrate progress and ensure you feel confident continuing the work at home. All Board & Train programs include ongoing lifetime support, along with opportunities such as complimentary pack walks that provide structured social exposure and continued reinforcement in a safe, controlled setting.

Understanding Aggression

Contact us today to setup your consultation.

Aggression in dogs can develop for many different reasons, which is why identifying the underlying cause is essential for effective and lasting behavior change. When aggressive behavior appears suddenly, illness or injury is often a contributing factor. In these cases, the first step should always be a veterinary examination to rule out pain, discomfort, or medical conditions that may be influencing your dog’s behavior.

Once health concerns have been addressed, it’s important to evaluate behavioral triggers that commonly contribute to aggression. These may include fear-based reactions, resource guarding or possession aggression, frustration or redirected aggression, dominance-related behaviors, and predatory instincts.

Predatory aggression can be especially concerning, as it may trigger chasing or attacking behaviors toward animals, and in some cases even children.

Redirected aggression occurs when a dog cannot reach its original trigger and instead reacts toward a nearby person or animal.

Resource guarding often begins with warning signs such as stiff body language or growling around food, toys, or space, and can escalate to snapping or biting if left unaddressed.

Because aggression has many possible causes and varying levels of severity, professional guidance is essential.

Our team carefully evaluates each dog’s unique situation and develops a customized training and management plan to address the root of the behavior, promote safety, and help both dogs and owners move forward with confidence.
